نقل قول مستقیم و غیرمستقیم در انگلیسی (Reported speech)
در فارسی نقل قول غیرمستقیم تقریباً همان جمله‌ی اصلی است: «گفت خسته است». در انگلیسی وقتی فعل گزارش گذشته است (said)، زمان جمله‌ی نقل‌شده معمولاً یک قدم به عقب میرود: She said she was tired. همین یک قاعده به‌علاوه‌ی تغییر ضمیرها و قیدها، کل این درس است.

نقل جمله‌ی خبری: say و tell

that بعد از said و told اختیاری است و در گفتار اغلب حذف میشود.

- اگر فعل گزارش حال است (says، has said)، زمان عوض نمیشود: He says he's busy.
- اگر جمله هنوز درست است، عقب رفتن اختیاری است: She said she lives in Tabriz (هنوز هم آن‌جا زندگی می‌کند).
- گذشته کامل و would، could، should، might تغییر نمی‌کنند.
تغییر ضمیر، زمان و مکان
ضمیرها از دید کسی که گزارش می‌دهد عوض میشوند: "I love my job," Ali said ← Ali said he loved his job. قیدهای زمان و مکان هم وقتی زمان و مکان گزارش فرق کرده، عوض میشوند.

نکته
نقل سؤال
در نقل سؤال، ترتیب جمله عادی میشود (فاعل قبل از فعل)، do / does / did حذف میشود و علامت سؤال نمی‌آید. سؤال بله و خیر با if یا whether نقل میشود.

نقل امر و درخواست
دستور و درخواست با tell یا ask + مفعول + to نقل میشوند. منفی‌اش not to است.

فعل‌های گزارشی: فراتر از said
said همه‌جا درست است ولی تکراری. فعل‌های گزارشی معنی دقیق‌تری می‌دهند و هر کدام الگوی خودشان را دارند. این‌ها در رایتینگ آکادمیک و خلاصه کردن متن خیلی لازم‌اند.

اشتباه‌های رایج فارسی‌زبان‌ها
این‌ها را تقریباً همه‌ی ما یک بار گفته‌ایم؛ معمولاً چون جمله را از فارسی ترجمه می‌کنیم.
غلط:She said me that she was busy.
درست:She told me that she was busy. / She said that she was busy.
say مفعول شخص نمی‌گیرد؛ برای گفتن «به من» از tell me استفاده کن.
غلط:He asked me where did I live.
درست:He asked me where I lived.
در نقل سؤال ترتیب جمله عادی است و did حذف میشود.
غلط:She asked me do I like coffee.
درست:She asked me if I liked coffee.
سؤال بله و خیر با if یا whether نقل میشود.
غلط:He told me don't worry.
درست:He told me not to worry.
امر منفی با not to نقل میشود.
غلط:She suggested me to see a doctor.
درست:She suggested that I see a doctor. / She suggested seeing a doctor.
suggest الگوی «مفعول + to» ندارد.

نقل قول غیرمستقیم در انگلیسی چطور ساخته میشود؟
بعد از فعل گزارشی گذشته مثل said، زمان جمله یک قدم عقب میرود (is ← was، will ← would)، ضمیرها و قیدهای زمان و مکان از دید گویندهی جدید عوض میشوند و نقلقول بدون گیومه میآید.
فرق say و tell در نقل قول چیست؟
tell همیشه یک مفعول شخص میخواهد (She told me) و say نه (She said). برای دستور و درخواست هم tell / ask + مفعول + to به کار میرود.
آیا در نقل قول همیشه باید زمان را عوض کرد؟
نه. اگر فعل گزارشی حال است (says) زمان عوض نمیشود، و اگر حرف هنوز درست است عوض کردن اختیاری است: He said the earth is round.
