پارت ۱: سؤال‌ها و جواب نمونه
پارت ۱ چهار تا پنج دقیقه طول می‌کشد و سؤال‌هایش دربارهی زندگی روزمره‌ی خودت است. جواب ایده‌آل دو تا سه جمله است: جواب مستقیم، یک دلیل و یک جزئیات.
1What do you do in your free time?
Sample answer
It depends on how much time I have. On weekdays I usually just go for a walk or watch a series, but at weekends I like to go hiking in the mountains north of Tehran with a couple of friends.
2Did you have the same hobbies when you were a child?
Sample answer
Not really. As a kid I was obsessed with football and played every afternoon in the alley with the neighbours' children. I still watch matches, but I rarely play these days.
3Do you prefer spending your free time alone or with other people?
Sample answer
A mix of both. I need some time on my own to recharge, especially after a busy week, but for things like hiking or going to the cinema it's much more fun with friends.
4Is there a new hobby you would like to try?
Sample answer
I've been thinking about learning the setar, which is a traditional Iranian instrument. My cousin plays it beautifully, and she's offered to teach me the basics.
5Do people in your country have enough free time?
Sample answer
Many don't, to be honest. A lot of people have two jobs because of the cost of living, so their free time is often limited to Fridays, and even then they usually spend it visiting family.

I'm going to talk about hiking, which has become my main hobby over the last three years.
I got into it almost by accident. During my second year at university, a classmate invited me to join a group that went walking in the mountains every Friday. I only went because I didn't want to be rude, and to be honest I nearly gave up halfway up the first trail because I was so unfit. But the view from the top was so beautiful that I decided to go again the following week.
Now I go most Fridays with the same three friends. We usually leave home very early, around six, to avoid the crowds, and we walk for four or five hours. In winter, when there's snow, we choose easier routes, and a couple of times a year we try something more challenging, like a two-day trip to a higher peak.
I enjoy it for several reasons. The obvious one is that it keeps me fit; I'm much healthier than I was three years ago. But I think the main reason is mental. When you're concentrating on the path, you can't think about exams or deadlines, so it's the best way I know to unwind. And finally, there's a real sense of achievement when you reach the top, which gives me energy for the rest of the week.

پارت ۳: سؤال‌های بحث
پارت ۳ از تجربهی شخصی به موضوع‌های کلی‌تر می‌رود. ممتحن نظر و دلیل می‌خواهد، پس جوابها بلندترند: نظرت، دلیل، مثال و گاهی طرف مقابل ماجرا.
1Why are hobbies important for adults?
Sample answer
Because adult life is usually built around obligations like work, bills and family. A hobby is one of the few things people do just because they enjoy it, so it reduces stress and gives them a sense of identity outside their job. Some hobbies, like sport or music, also help people make friends.
2Do people spend too much of their free time on their phones?
Sample answer
I think many do, myself included sometimes. Scrolling through social media feels relaxing at the time, but it rarely leaves you feeling rested. The problem is that phones are designed to be addictive, so people need to make a conscious effort to set limits.
3Should schools teach hobbies such as music and art?
Sample answer
Yes, I believe they should, at least as an option. Many children never discover what they're good at because they only study exam subjects. Music and art also develop creativity and patience, which are useful in any career.
4How have leisure activities changed compared with your parents' generation?
Sample answer
They've become much more individual and screen-based. My parents spent their free time visiting relatives or going on picnics with large groups of friends. Today people of my age often spend evenings alone with a phone or a series, although outdoor activities like hiking have become more popular again recently.

اشتباه‌های رایج فارسی‌زبان‌ها
غلط:I enjoy to read.
درست:I enjoy reading.
بعد از enjoy فعل با ing می‌آید، نه با to.
غلط:In free time I watch films.
درست:In my free time I watch films.
free time در این عبارت ضمیر ملکی لازم دارد.
غلط:I go to mountain every Friday.
درست:I go hiking in the mountains every Friday.
کوه‌پیمایی را با go hiking یا go to the mountains می‌گویند.
پرسش‌های متداول
اگر سرگرمی خاصی ندارم چه بگویم؟
لازم نیست سرگرمی عجیبی داشته باشی. پیادهروی، دیدن سریال یا آشپزی هم کاملاً قابل قبول است؛ مهم این است که دربارهاش با جزئیات حرف بزنی.
میتوانم برای کیو کارت سرگرمی داستان بسازم؟
ممتحن راست بودن حرفت را نمیسنجد. ولی حرف زدن دربارهی تجربهی واقعی راحتتر است و مکث کمتری دارد، پس تا جای ممکن از زندگی خودت بگو.
hobby و interest فرق دارند؟
hobby کاری است که انجامش میدهی (نقاشی، شنا) و interest موضوعی است که به آن علاقه داری (تاریخ، فوتبال). در جوابها هر دو را میتوانی به کار ببری.
